In visual art terms, to ‘flux’ means to use paint to blot out or ‘erase’/cover areas of an art piece that aren’t working. You can flux with white or any colour - you keep what is working and flux the rest
I often feel as if I write better when I am corresponding and have wondered if this approach would produce works. The trouble is, I can’t seem to pretend to write to someone. I have to actually be writing someone. And I agree the play in a dialogue can produce unexpected insights and direction. So I may need to manifest a partner.
As an individual trying to recreate their style of working I can only think that it would begin as what many call "brainstorming". You take a general idea, write down as many disparate thoughts that idea generates. You leave it a day, come back to it and try to mould it into a more cohesive and workable narrative.
Flux reminds me of the Fluxus movement too. And all their cool boxes (which were part of Brian Eno’s inspiration for his oblique strategy deck). See, you’ve got the connections and free association going for me already!

You’ve now inspired me to officially call our group the “Foursome Flux”! 😆
Fascinating creative relationship
You know, you can tag Žižek now! He’s on Substack.

I could use some flux right about now. Thanks for this, Mason... super interesting!
