The Souvenir was a revelation for me because I had no idea the film existed. I jolted awake some time around 3 a.m. one morning. Unable to go back to sleep, I got up, turned on the TV, and was immediately thrown right into Hogg's story, despite being so desperately grumpy just minutes before. I usually read when I have trouble going back to bed, but HBO came through for me that day. Loved this feature on Hogg.
My husband and I coined a joke phrase some years ago, said in an exaggerated, Lucky Charms ad-type Irish accent: "You can't beat the luck of the late bloomer"! Because I am one of those, definitely.
Hear hear re Joanna Hogg - upside down world, people often talk more sense the older they get, hopefully have more wisdom - and learnt something from life?
Love Joanna Hogg and love this post! Thank you.

Ooh, good discovery story! I love it when just the right movie (or book) comes at just the right moment.

I'm going to seek out Hogg's movies.
I like that! And I suspect you'd enjoy Hogg's movies—I'd recommend starting with The Souvenir (part I) or Exhibition.
Thanks!
